GOVERNOR Amado I. Espino III assured that Abig Pangasinan Karaban will resume in the next few weeks or within this October when the number of COVID-19 active cases in the province is lower and is expected to stabilize.

The assurance was made by the governor during the Kapihan sa Ilocos forum via Zoom on October 6.

Mahirap balansehin lahat pero sinisiguro ng Pangasinan Provincial Government that we will do our best to help our provincemates,” Gov. Espino said when asked about the present situation in the province amid pandemic.

“We are trying our best to take care of our provincemates. Nakakapagod po kaya kailangan din natin bigyan inspirasyon ang lahat. Lilipas at lilipas po ito pero ang mga programa para sa tao ay magpapatuloy,” he added.

In stating this, the governor disclosed that it’s a challenge on the part of the provincial government, but with the support of other line agencies and various sectors, the present administration is able to carry out its programs and projects through its flagship program, Abig Pangasinan.

Hence, the governor stated that the temporary suspension of Abig Pangasinan rounds is due to the fact that security and safety of the people must be prioritized.

“As long we are here at tinatangkilik ng mga tao ang programa natin ay magpapatuloy ang mga ginagawa natin para sa ating mga kababayan,” he stressed.

According to Gov. Espino, the temporary suspension of Abig Pangasinan onsite travel is due to the spike of COVID-19 cases over the past weeks which led to the provincial government’s request to the National IATF to declare the province under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) with high restrictions classification, thus temporarily shelving Abig Pangasinan visitations to identified/scheduled areas.

“Over the past five to six days napababa natin ang number of cases pero noong October 5 ay tumaas uli sa 475 new cases,” he said.

On the part of peace and order in Pangasinan which is one of the topics of Kapihan sa Ilocos, Gov. Espino said it is a huge challenge to maintain the status for a province as large as Pangasinan as he acknowledged the vital role of the uniformed men notably the PNP, Phil. Army and the barangay councils in keeping the Pangasinan as an “insurgency-free” province.

He said: “We will continue to maintain the status of Pangasinan as insurgency-free. Nagpapasalamat tayo sa mga LGUs at barangay officials sa pagsuporta sa adhikain na maging safe ang ating probinsya at mabigyan ng hanapbuhay ang ating mga kababayan lalo na sa mga sensitive areas. Malaking tulong ang coordination sa ating uniformed personnel. Bagamat isa ang Pangasinan sa pinakamalaking probinsya sa bansa at marami itong  boundaries, we will continue the collective effort to maintain a safe and insurgency-free province.”

Recent projects being undertaken by the provincial government in this time of pandemic which were identified by the governor include provision of thousands of educational tablets and self-learning modules to school divisions in Pangasinan, groundbreaking activities of some facilities notably in the government hospitals, and other infrastructure projects that will be beneficial to the people of Pangasinan.

Kapihan sa Ilocos which is conducted by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) – Region 1, is one of the platforms to undertake massive information dissemination activities of all government programs, projects, and activities that is aired live in various partner radio stations in Region 1.

National Security Adviser and CORDS for Region 1, Secretary Hermogenes C. Esperon, Jr. who was the main guest was ably represented by National Security Council Undersecretary Vicente Agdamag who tackled the topic regarding insurgency program of the government and the Barangay Development Program. /RBB
