Youth group to lead coastal clean-up at Lingayen beach
A youth organization is set to lead a coastal clean-up at Lingayen Beach on September 13, 2025, and is calling on the public to participate.
In a radio interview, Kenneth Dave Ugaban, former head of the Environment and Climate Change Division of the Pangasinan Youth for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (PYDRRM), asked the community to join in cleaning up the beach and support environmental efforts.
Project AGOS is aligned with the national observance of Clean-Up Month in September.
The initiative focuses on addressing the aftermath of recent storms that have impacted the province of Pangasinan.
In collaboration with various environmental groups and student councils, the PYDRRM will focus its efforts along the Lingayen Baywalk, aiming to remove debris brought in by floodwaters from nearby towns
Ugaban said the clean-up will also benefit local livelihood, particularly fishing.
He explained that once oceans are overwhelmed with garbage, marine life struggles to thrive, which can have a lasting impact on the fishing industry.
Additionally, the project aims to reduce the risk of flooding by clearing blocked canals.
PYDRRM’s first Project AGOS was launched in 2023, after pandemic lockdowns were eased. (Ahikam Pasion)
