THE Dagupan Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) has passed a resolution expressing the city government’s gratitude and commendation to all volunteers — individuals, civic groups, private sector partners, faith-based institutions, non-government organizations and donors — who assisted during the widespread flooding in July, wrought by Typhoons Crising and Emong, and the enhanced southwest monsoon

Authored jointly by Councilors Jalice Cayabyab, Danielle Francine Canto and Christel Hilary Paras, the resolution took note of the sufferings of the people of Dagupan City who were not able to engage in livelihood amid the flood and high tide from July 22 to 31.

The city was placed under a State of Calamity on July 23, after over 42,000 families from 31 barangays were gravely affected.

The extraordinary outpouring of compassion and solidarity was shown by countless volunteers, organizations, institutions, and individuals, whose aid in the form of food, water, medicine, shelter, financial donations, equipment, and service “uplifted the spirit of the Dagupeños during rather darkest days,” the resolution stated.

Attached to the resolution is the complete list of donors, organizations, volunteer groups, and individuals who helped the people of Dagupan in their times of great need.

The state of calamity was lifted on September 15 through a resolution.  (Leonardo Micua)
