PVB hands over ‘History Wall’, World War II memorabilia to Dagupan
THE Dagupan City Government received a valuable addition to its heritage collection with the turnover of the History Wall and MacArthur memorabilia from the Philippine Veterans Bank (PVB) on August 12.
Acting Mayor Bryan Kua received the History Wall and pieces of memorabilia from PVB Dagupan Branch Manager Cherry Soriano at the bank’s former branch in the CAP Building along Burgos Street.
The History Wall is a curated exhibit chronicling the story of Dagupan and Pangasinan during World War II.
Joining Kua in receiving these historical donations were City Mayor’s Office Consultant Rex Catubig, Tourism Officer-in-Charge Sharon Maramba, and Jayceeken representative Alex Villaflor.
Kua said the donation reflects a meaningful partnership between PVB, the city government led by Mayor Belen Fernandez, and Jayceeken, serving as a bridge to history and a lasting reminder of the heroism of Filipinos and the friendship forged with the American troops led by Gen. Douglas MacArthur during World War II.
The memorabilia and History Wall were immediately transferred to the former Home Economics building at West Central Elementary School, in coordination with West 1 Principal Renato Santillan, where they will be preserved and displayed as an educational and historical resource for the community, students, researchers, and future generations.
The old H.E. building was used by MacArthur as his quarters and command post when he and his troops landed in Dagupan on January 9, 1945, to liberate Luzon from the Japanese occupation forces. (CIO Dagupan)
