Former Dagupan broadcaster writes 30 in LA

JESS Castillo, a former broadcast practitioner in Dagupan City who migrated to the United States, died of natural causes on May 7 at the age of 75.

The former station manager of DZRD, now known as Sonshine Radio Dagupan, was found unresponsive in his Los Angeles City apartment.

According to a fellow Filipino, Dan Nino, memorial service was held on Saturday, May 10 after which a mass was held officiated by Bishop Frank Ignacio.

A necrological ritual was also held by his APO fraternity at the Filipino-American Community of Los Angeles (FACLA) hall in his honor.

Born in Dagupan City and grew up in Bayambang, Castillo was married to Anabelle De Venecia. He is survived by his siblings and grandchildren.

An active member of the Pangasinan Brotherhood Association-US, Castillo was a graduate of mass communication at the University of the East.

In the 1970s, he organized the very successful Dagupan Regatta participated in by boat rowers from various island barangays of the Dagupan. (Leonardo J. Galvez, LA Correspondent)
