San Carlos City’s Mango-Bamboo Festival is on
THE annual Mango-Bamboo Festival of San Carlos City officially opened on April 3 with the holding of a ‘Food Strip’ competition at the city plaza featuring various innovative food products using the city’s two banner agricultural goods.
Some 100 students from the Pangasinan State University (PSU) San Carlos Campus and the Binalatongan Community College participated in the event.
Arlaine Dee Vera, head of the City Cooperative Entrepreneurship and Livelihood Development Office, said the city government partnered with the PSU San Carlos Campus to help innovate the students’ products with the help of cooperative members.
The project is a community and academic partnership where cooperatives help students who want to become entrepreneurs.
Dr. Liza Quimson, PSU San Carlos Campus executive director, said the school already signed a memorandum of agreement with the city government for the Shared Service Facility program of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), where all innovated products developed by their students and can later be patented to become full-fledged products of San Carlos City.
On April 22-26, the students will present mango-based products such as pizza, tarts, bread, cakes, and more as part of the festivities. (Kim Gealogo)
