Malasiqui celebrates 1st Kirmat Festival
THE town of Malasiqui opened the inaugural Kirmat Festival on January 15, a celebration of the town’s strong sense of community and resilience symbolized by the Pangasinan word kirmat, which means lightning.
“The Kirmat Festival is a symbol of Malasiqui’s culture, it represents the strength of its people and a light that illuminates the entire community,” Malasiqui Mayor Anthony Geslani said.
The highlight of the festivity was the Kirmat Street Dancing Competition where Cluster 7 emerged as champions and brought home the P300,000 grand prize. The winning cluster is composed of Barangays Aliaga, Bakitiw, Don Pedro,Lepa, Palong, Polongg Norte, Polong Sur, San Julian and Warey.
Other activities included a Zumba Dance Contest, Agew Na Dumaralos, Senior Citizen’s Day, Balikbayan Night and Miss Malasiqui Pageant. (Kim Gealogo)
