Reading Nook opens at Dagupan CSI Mall
AS part of initiatives to foster a love for reading and learning among children, the Dagupan City government under Mayor Belen Fernandez launched on November 7 the Reading Nook at CSI Mall in Barangay Lucao, a space designed to engage young minds and promote literacy.
Located on the second floor of CSI Dagupan, the Reading Nook provides an immersive educational environment that blends books, creativity, play, and storytelling.
“The Reading Nook is for everyone, but especially for children,” said Ruby Flores, a staff member at the Dagupan e-Library. “They’ve become so absorbed in their devices that they often forget the importance of books.”
The Reading Nook is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., offering both children and adults a chance to read printed books. Parents and companions are encouraged to bring their own reading materials, such as books, newspapers, and magazines, while children enjoy the space.
Marilyn Caguioa, officer-in-charge at the City Library, said staff from the e-Library, barangay libraries, and city library will be on hand to assist visitors. The space also provides a safe and engaging environment where parents can leave their children for short periods while they shop.
Judy Ann Cayetano, librarian at the City Library, said the community’s response has been overwhelmingly positive, with many parents expressing gratitude that the Reading Nook is free of charge.
For Mayor Fernandez, the Reading Nook is part of a larger vision to make education more accessible and enjoyable for all children in Dagupan. “Education is the foundation for a better future, and our children deserve every opportunity to learn and grow.” (Eva Visperas)
