STUDENTS in the Special Program in the Arts of Alaminos City National High School (ACNHS) bagged the Magic Film Award in the recently concluded 19th Busan International Kids and Youth Film (BIKY) Festival in Busan, South Korea.

Their winning entry titled ‘Peymus,’ directed by Gabriel Rodriguez, was adjudged as the ‘Best Film’ in the Ready Action 18 International Category.

Another short film, “Ti bisikleta ni Arong,” directed by Branden Josh Domingo, made it to the Top 10 in the Ready Action 15 Category.

Both films produced by ACNHS were the only Philippine films that made it to the prestigious international film festival.

This year’s BIKY showcased 45 films from a total of 465 films submitted by different productions and filmmakers from 34 countries.

BIKY is an international film festival for the young generation that serves as an international hub for kids and youth films. Rather than only offering film screenings, BIKY strives to share notions of generosity and diversity through movies and culture. The festival also takes to heart its role of developing film literacy among the youth and helping schools include film materials in their curriculum.

BIKY, the only youth festival in Korea that provides a venue for young audiences to communicate through various films from all over the world, holds a competition called ‘Ready-Action!’ for films directed by young directors who are under the age of 18. (Eva Visperas)
