UnliSerbisyo Caravan held on Agew na Dagupan

THE city of Dagupan celebrated Agew na Dagupan on June 20 with the launching of UnliSerbisyo Caravan, honoring model mothers or “Ulirang Ina”, distribution of multicabs for garbage collection and bancas for transport, and seeds and fertilizers to farmers and households at the city plaza.

The UnliSerbisyo Caravan participated in by all departments of the city government, provided given free laboratory services, vaccines for seniors citizens, check-up and tooth extraction, free circumcision and minor operations, check-up and vaccination for pets, legal assistance, civil registration, request for misting, senior citizens and solo parents IDs not, free theoretical driving course, family planning service delivery and others.

Mayor Belen Fernandez spearheaded the celebration with Fourth District Rep. Christopher de Venecia and his mother, former Congresswoman Gina de Venecia, as guests.

The celebration kicked off with the laying of wreath at monument of the late Speaker Eugenio Perez in Barangay Herrero- Perez, author of Republic Act 170 that elevated the former Pangasinan town of Dagupan into a chartered city.

From among the 25 outstanding mothers of Dagupan, two grandmothers received the first-ever Dona Remdedios Tan Fernandez Memorial Award Pinablin Ina na Dagupan City.

They are Felicidad Espinoza Diaz, 95 years old, from Lucao; and Rosita Calip De Guzman from Salisay, 97, who in her younger days was chosen as Miss Binalonan, who is now in a wheelchair.

The awards were given in honor of  late Remedios Tan Fernandez, a businesswoman of Dagupan, who had the distinct honor of being awarded by Pope Francis the Pro Ecclesia eat Pontifice Award being given by the Vatican for members of the laity for her faithful service and devotion to the Church.

The celebration continued with a feast called “bodong” and the planting of 400 coconut seedlings made available by the Philippine Coconut Authority at Tondaligan Park. (Leonardo Micua)
