Cluster 6 is ‘Gilon-Gilon ed Baley’ 2024 champion

STREET DANCING AT THE BANGUS FESTIVAL

STREET dancers from Barangays Pantal, Lucao, Lasip Chico, Malued and Tapuac, comprising Cluster 6, earned the nod of members of the board of judges for their stunning focal performance at the Dagupan City Plaza to win the championship and the P150,000 top prize in the Gilon-Gilon ed Baley at the 2024 Bangus Festival in the evening of April 26.

The group was also adjudged best in street dancing and won an additional prize of P20,000, and as best in musicality when they wowed the crowd during the parade of all participating delegations in Dagupan City.

Meanwhile, Cluster 3, comprising the One-Bonuan Barangays of Gueset, Boquig and Binloc clinched the first runner up honor and the P100,000 cash prize and  P20,000 for being adjudged “Best in Costume”. It was last year’s Gilon-Gilon ed Baley champion.

Cluster 2 comprising Mamalingling, Bolosan, Mangin, Salisay, Tambac and Tebeng was second runner up and won P15,000 for being third place in street dancing.

Consolation prizes went to Cluster 1 composed of Mayombo, Bacayao Norte, Bacayao Sur, Caranglaan and Herero Perez, Cluster 4 (Barangays 1, Barangay II and III, Barangay IV, Lasip Gande, Pogo Grande and Pogo Chico), and Cluster 5 (Calmay, Carael, Lomboy, Poblacion Oeste, Pugaro and Salapingao).

Mayor Belen Fernandez and 2024 Bangus Festival Hermano Mayor Marcelino Fernandez presented the cash prices to the winners.

All the street dancers adopted the unique movements of fishermen when harvesting their milkfish (bangus) in their fishponds and fish cages, and were intricately choreographed by experts so it can compare with the best street dancing in the country.

Special guests during the opening program were Fourth District Rep. Christopher de Venecia, his parents, former Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. and former Rep. Gina de Venecia.

This year’s  Bangus Festival was dedicated to St. John the Evangelist, patron saint of Dagupan whose image was featured in the parade. St. John was a fisherman before he became one of the disciples of Jesus Christ. (Leonardo Micua)
