LNU student sweeps awards in Mutia ti Mangatarem 2024

MEET the beauty queen that didn’t just win the crown but three other minor awards and 15 other special awards in the town’s beauty pageant, Mutia ti Mangatarem 2024 pageant last January 22.

Tonette Alexandrea Mendoza, a Tourism student at the Lyceum Northwestern University (L-NU) in Dagupan City, wrote in her Facebook page: “This victory is not just a crown on my head; it is a symbol of redemption, a vindication of the sacrifices made, and a celebration of the growth achieved.”

“It is a story of perseverance, self-discovery, and the unyielding spirit” that refuses to be defined by past setbacks…. As I stand on this stage, crowned Mutia ti Mangatarem 2024, I am not just a winner; I am a testament to the power of tenacity and the fulfillment of a dream long awaited,” she said.

Aside from the crown, Mendoza bagged minor awards, namely, Best in Production, Swimsuit and in Long Gown.

She also garnered all 15 special ‘mutia’awards, from Hilera Chill Top, Agkapita, Eat Street, Gogi-Banchan, Jin-Japanese, Nicas Palace Inn & Restaurant, Tisoys Event Place Hotel & Resort, Amazing Goldenheart, Vivo Choice Award, Chic.Coleccion, Beyond Majestic Collection Gowns & Suit, Shoeniverse, Earl Healthlines Clinical & Drugs Testing Laboratory, St. Raphael Medical & Diagnostic Center, and Guani Sacdalan Optical.

Mendoza was first runner-up in the Mutia ti Mangatarem 2020. Determined to bag the title. She described her journey as “a testament to the resilience cultivated through facing challenges head-on and the ability to learn from setbacks”.

Mangatarem National High School posted a congratulatory message to Mendoza: “In her years of stay in Mangatarem NHS, she has made us mesmerized with her charm and undeniable dancing prowess as one of the elite members of the Ligliwa Dance Troupe. From owning the dance floor to conquering the pageant stage, Tonette has proven that she is bound for greatness.”

Mendoza spent her junior high school years under the Special Program in the Arts (SPA), and finished senior high school in 2021 under the Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS).

L-NU Student Affairs and Services also congratulated Mendoza on Facebook:: “Wear the crown. Be the crown. You are the crown. You have embodied elegance, charisma, and wit as you graced the stage like a true queen. Your L-NU Family is proud of you!”

She thanked the L-NU Family for not only providing a platform “for my love of dancing but also for fostering an environment where I could share my passion for culture and heritage preservation through La Florencia Folkloric Dance Group.
