“HERE comes the bride, all dressed in black (including a black veil covering her face)” and so were the groom and the guests who wore black at the wedding ceremony held in a memorial park in Alaminos City on December 28.
The new couple, Marelinda Caranay and Ronald Versosa, both from Mabini town, held their one-of-a-kind sunset ‘black’ wedding at the Garden of Remembrance Memorial Park.
All their relatives, friends and guests wore black as they witnessed an eerie, emotional yet solemn and happy union in marriage of the bride and groom.
The reception was also held in the memorial park, according to DWIZ reporter Susan Yadao, who attended the wedding, also clad in black dress.
Versosa said it was his dream wedding to have a ‘black’ wedding theme and he is thankful to his wife for supporting it.
Asked why he chose that theme, he said, “Kasi po ma’am, yan yung pagkatao ko, okay? Itim, dark. Kung ano yung nakikita n’yo ngayon, yun yung pagkatao ko. Banda, itim, death.”
The groom’s brother, Engr. Arnold Versosa, said in his message during the reception that they were in disbelief when they learned about the theme of the wedding.
He said it was actually the second ‘black’ wedding in the Philippines, the first being of the vocalist of the band Kamikaze.
He added that whatever his brother wants, their family supports him. He admitted that many of their relatives thought negatively of the kind of wedding that the couple decided on.
“But what we have right now is a symbol of love… Because until the end, their love will never end,” he added.
Their table decorations and others in the area were also in black and a coffin was also displayed.
Adding a touch of reality of ‘death’ to the total theme, the bride in black dress arrived at the ceremony in her bridal car, a hearse with a coffin inside.
At the main entrance of the memorial park was posted a white tarpaulin with black letters that read : Please be informed that on December 28, 2023, the Garden of Remembrance premises will be closed for visitation due to a wedding ceremony. We apologize for any convenience caused.”
The groom, an electrical engineer who loves metallic and rock music, was teary eyed during their exchange of marital vows.
