Visperas bags 2023 NCCA Writers’ Prize

PUNCH’S Associate Editor Eva Visperas won in the 2023 NCCA Writers’ Prize sponsored by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the grand prize of P250,000 that goes with it.

In its letter to Visperas on November 6, 2023, NCCA wrote: “Please accept this Commission’s felicitations as your entry in the Pangasinan Short  Story of the 2023 NCAA Writers’ Prize entitled “Inkadenan Aro” was declared as the winner for the said category by this year’s Board of Jurors”.

Her prize of P250,000 (subject to government accounting and auditing rules and regulations on withholding tax) will be released in four tranches, with the first tranche to be given during the Awards Ceremony on December 9.

The award is good for one year, after which a polished final copy will be submitted to the NCAA, particularly its  National Committee on Literary Art (NCLA) for possible publication or staging.

The award is open to all Filipino writers, of legal age, and residing in the Philippines.

The other categories are: Poetry (Ibaloi), Novel (Filipino), Essay/Creative Non-Fiction (Bicol), and Drama (Cebuiano).

Visperas was a former correspondent of the Philippine Star and once served as City Information Officer of Dagupan. (Leonardo Micua)
