Bermudez’s Ilocano novel wins in 40th National Book Awards

THE novel of Prescillano Bermudez of San Manuel town and a retired chief officer of the Philippine Information Agency, titled Dagiti Pundador (The Founders), was adjudged Best Novel in Ilocano in the Literary Division of the 40th National Book Awards.

For his feat, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan passed a resolution on Monday congratulating him for his accomplishment.

Authored by Sixth District Board Member Salvador Perez Jr. The resolution said the province of Pangasinan recognizes with pride and honor the outstanding accomplishments of its successful sons and daughters who excel in various fields, bringing great inspiration to all Pangasinenses and cited the announcement of the Manila Critics Circle and the National Book Development Board hailing him as one of the winners of this year’s edition of the awards program.

This cycle of the National Book Awards highlights titles published in 2021 and earned 213 title nominations across categories grouped into Literary, Non-Literary and designed and written in English, Filipino and Ilocano.

Both Perez and Bermudez are from San Manuel town.

Bermudez, at the awards night, expressed his gratitude to the organizers for recognizing his novel despite being in his “sunset years.” His novel was written 43 years ago and thanked Saniata Press that took a chance on a very old story. (Eva Visperas)
