PISTA’Y DAYAT 2023 SAND & SCULPTING COMPETITION

ARTISTIC ingenuity and creativity became the main focus in judging participants in the Pista’y Dayat 2023 sand sculpting competition on April 15 at the Capitol Beachfront in Lingayen.

Adjudged winners were the entries of Wilson V. Pineda’s group for adult category titled “Galila Ed Pangasinan (Come to Pangasinan),” and Robert G. Sison’s contingent for the family category entitled “Kasaganaan (Opulence).”

According to Sison, aside from being a bonding experience for his family, they were excited to participate in the competition to showcase the artistic inclination of his kin.

“We enjoyed the Pista’y Dayat sand sculpting. With my children, we always encourage participation in this annual activity as a tribute to our province and to show our appreciation for the environment through the skills and knowledge of the participants. We can say that Pangasinan is great!”

For Chin-Chin, a returning participant who won again, said it was worth the effort despite their exhaustion. “We are very happy because we became champions again after several years of no competition due to the pandemic. It was worth the effort, even in the heat, at least we won,” she said.

Other winners in the young adult category were Efren C. Antenor’s group with their sand sculpture titled “Bilay Ed Dayat” (1st runner-up ), and Angela Nacional and her team for their entry called “Pinabli’y Bilay na Maliket” (2^nd runner-up). Antenor ‘s group won ₱20,000 cash while Nacional’s team won ₱10,000.

In the family category, the Sison family was 1st runner-up slot for their entry called “Sigay” and took home a ₱15,000 cash prize and a trophy while Harold Baluyot’s family, who created the “Aro” sand sculpture, placed 2nd runner-up and won a ₱10,000 cash prize and trophy.

All participants received a consolation prize of ₱3,500 and a certificate of participation. (PIO/Ruby R. Bernardino)
