THE designer of the gown of 2022 Miss Universe R’ Bonny Gabriel, a Filipino-American who reigned as Miss USA, was honored by the provincial government through a resolution passed by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

Rian Fernandez, 38, a native of Poblacion West in Alcala town, received the resolution authored by Fifth District Board Members Chinky Perez-Tababa and Jan Louis Sison during the SP regular session on February 13.

The resolution gave due recognition and commendation to Fernandez for his achievements and contributions to the global fashion and apparel industry that showcase strong cultural themes and creativity.

Rian, the son of Eduardo Fernandez and Marina Collado Fernandez of Alcala, began the new year by showcasing his creations for the newly crowned Miss Universe 2022 R’ Bonny Gabriel and Miss Universe Cambodia in the recently concluded 71st Miss Universe Pageant held at New Orleans, Louisiana, USA.

He first made his name in world fashion industry in 2016 when he created the popular gown of Miss Universe Thailand.

In accepting the resolution, Fernandez said he had been in the business of fashion design for 15 years, starting in Baguio where he was a free-lance fashion designer. He said he decided to return to Pangasinan to give back to the communities where he started his artistry.

He is presently helping single mothers and elder women cope with their challenges as his own way of celebrating his artistry in  Pangasinan. (Leonardo Micua)
