Dagupan’s Grade 8 twin sister-writers win Carlos Palanca Awards

TWIN sisters in Dagupan City both won First Prizes during 70th edition of the prestigious Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature, the famed version of the  ‘Pulitzer Prize’ in literature during awards ceremonies on  November 30 at Marquis Events Place at Bonifacio Global City.

The 12-year-old twin sisters, Zahara Exylin Alesna and Zavannah Exylin Alesna, both Grade Eight students of St. Albert the Great School in Barangay Malued were proclaimed winners in the Essay Categories in English and Filipino Youth Division in this year’s Awards.

The winning piece of  Zahara is titled ‘Home is a Bowl of Warm Soup’ while the winning entry of his sister Zavannah in Tagalog is ‘Pamimintana’.

After two years of inactivity due to the pandemic, the Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards named after businessman-philanthropist Carlos Palanca Sr., returned to honor and give incentives to Filipino writers.

This year, 59 writers for 22 writing categories were honored, half of whom are first-time winners in this prestigious award.

According to the award-giving body organized by the Carlos Palanca Foundation, Inc., elite literary luminaries picked the winning entries. (Dagupan CIO News)
