ON HAVEN FOR WOMEN’S 23RD FOUNDING ANNIVERSARY

THE Haven for Women-Dagupan City celebrated its 23rd founding anniversary on August 30 with a special message from its founder, Manay Gina de Venecia.

In her message, Mrs. De Venecia, represented in the event by Corina Ramos, thanked the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for administering the day to day operations of the center.

Established in 1999 by the Congressional Spouses Foundation. Inc. headed by then Rep. De Venecia, the Haven for Women-Dagupan City was the first of the 15 regional centers of the National Center for Women in Alabang, Muntinlupa put up earlier in 1985 by CSFI.

Since its inception, the Haven for Women-Dagupan City has been helping abused women who were victims of rape, incest, prostitution, illegal recruitment, those battered by their husbands and experienced other forms of sexual, psychological, financial and physical abuse.

De Venecia also thanked the Philippine Dental Association-Pangasinan chapter through Drs. Ava Maureen Tesoro and Ann Theresa Bolos; the Wundt Psychological Institute, and Dr, Nohrly Domenden.

She gave special thanks to her husband, former Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr., who during his incumbency, set aside generous amount of his Countrywide Development Fund for the establishment of the center.

“But now that we are already senior citizens, you have a new ally and is ready to help the Haven for Women-Dagupan City, our son, Congressman Christopher de Venecia of the Fourth District,” Mrs. De Venecia said.

She said individuals and organizations who wish to extend help can coordinate with Hiyasmin Joy Rabales at Haven for Women-Dagupan City located on Russia Street in Bonuan Binloc. (Leonardo Micua)
