Student gets P25-M scholarship offers
A student from Daniel Maramba National High School (DMNHS) in Sta. Barbara town received admission offers and P25-million worth of scholarships from eight prestigious universities abroad.
Chrizsean Venette, a 17-year-old senior high school student, shares in a Facebook post his college applications journey on how he got accepted to esteemed universities, including American International College, Bentley University, Arizona State University (Main Campus and Global Direct Online Program), Woodbury University, Menlo College and California University of Pennsylvania.
“I always felt like I have little to no chance of getting into the schools I’ve applied to, particularly in the ivy league institutions, which are so competitive,” he wrote.
According to Vennette, doing the arduous applications, he also faced several setbacks and pressure, particularly in crafting his application essay.
“I don’t even know where to start as I don’t think I have a distinctive dimension that could make the admissions committee believe that I have a story to tell and something to contribute to their academe. I’ve always been so self-critical to the extent that I don’t think I have something special to offer in spite of all my achievements and accomplishments,” he said.
Despite all the difficulties, Venette said he constantly reminded himself that “this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and you have to grab it before having any regrets.”
“It was definitely an uphill battle, and the odds seemed to be against me since I am from a public high school in a small town, and I haven’t had as much opportunities as compared to those students in Pisay and some international students. Yet, I didn’t let all of these hinder my aspirations in turning my study abroad dream into reality, “ Venette added.
He also urged the youth to grab any opportunity offered before having any regrets. And if there is no opportunity, he encourages them to create one.
“To all of the aspiring youths out there, my only personal advice is [to] dare to dream, don’t be afraid to take some risks, and always challenge yourself,” he expressed. (Vjnhyl Pondivida)
