DAGUPAN City, known as the “Bangus Capital of the Philippines” lighted its giant Christmas tree on Monday, Nov. 15 to signal the start of the yuletide season.

The 36.5-foot tall Christmas tree adorned with dazzling lights in shapes of bangus, and waves so delighted Dagupeños that taking selfies and videos with their smartphones ruled the day.

Unlike the previous ceremonial lightings, the event this year with the theme “Lights for Life” was simple that started with a Holy Mass.

This year’s ceremonial lighting, Mayor Brian Lim and 4th District Rep. Christopher de Venecia, carried the message of optimism and hope amid life’s uncertainties.

“The pandemic is not easy. Nothing is really easy in life but despite the ups and downs, ultimately we must never stop looking for the best version of ourselves,” the mayor said.

Meanwhile, the Quintos and Magsaysay bridges along the city’s main central business district were also lit up with glimmering Christmas lights. (Jerick Pasiliao
