BFAR -NIFTDC Dagupan welcomes new center chief

THE Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-National Integrated Fisheries Technology Development Center (BFAR-NIFTDC) in Bonuan Binloc, Dagupan City has a new chief.

Dr. Dennis Tanay reported to work in his new office on November 2 and was welcomed by his new family in BFAR-NIFTDC.

Prior to his appointment, Tanay served as a senior science research specialist in the National Fisheries Research Development Institute (NFRDI) and the chief of Distant Water Section of NFRDI’s Capture Fisheries Research Development Division.

He was 2nd topnotcher in the 2016 Licensure Examination for Fisheries Technologists and has earned various scholarship grants from the BFAR, Department of Science and Technology and an international Fulbright Scholarship where he garnered a master’s degree in Molecular Bioscience and Bioengineering from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and a Doctorate in Aquaculture from Central Luzon State University.

Tanay previously worked in NIFTDC in collaboration with NFRDI in 2007 and was the first to successfully produce sea cucumber juveniles in the hatchery.

He is also working on sea ranching projects, biofloc culture, fishery stock assessment, and has a wide experience in aquaculture.

Tanay succeeded multi-awarded Dr. Westly Rosario as BFAR-NIFTDC center chief in Dagupan following his retirement from government service. (Eva Visperas)
