PDRRMO facilitates search, rescue operation for cops
THE Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) helped facilitate the 5-Day Disaster Preparedness, Search, Rescue, and Retrieval Operations (DPSRRO) seminar organized by Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) for its personnel last October 18-22, 2021 in Lingayen.
PPPO Information Officer P/Maj. Arturo Melchor Jr. credited Governor Amado I. Espino III’s for the full support that made the seminar possible.
P/Lt. Col. Ferdinand Z De Asis, PPPO Deputy Provincial Director for Operation (DPDO), explained the concept and purpose of the PNP’s disaster risk reduction and management plan for immediate response of lower PNP units before, during, and after the occurrence of a disaster.
Fifty Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel from 44 police offices from the 44 towns, four cities, and the two Police Mobile Force Company (PMFC).
PDRRMO resource persons discussed the basic survival techniques that rescuers need to know when responding to disaster incidents that included proper use of tools/equipment and post-disaster incidents, demonstration of Emergency Medical Action Techniques particularly on basic life support, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and traumas such as burns, haemorrhage, fractures, sprains and luxation.
The participants were also taught the fundamentals of high angle rescue and evacuation techniques, basic knot tying and rappelling techniques, basic raising and lowering systems of various equipment, use of high lines, and they were also trained with techniques on proper patient packaging and handling.
The trainees were taught basic firefighting techniques and Collapsed Structure Search and Rescue (CSSR) by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and Urban Navigation particularly on map reading and use of global positioning system (GPS), Boat Handling, Water Safety, and Life-saving Techniques.
