Library in LA may soon be renamed in honor of Carlos S. Bulosan

A move to rename the Echo Park Library (EPL) in Los Angeles, California, as Carlos S. Bulosan Library is gaining ground.

The proposal is intended to pay tribute to the life and legacy of Bulosan, who came to the United States 95 years ago. A meeting among Filipino-Americans will be held on  Sept 20 at EPL to further discuss the proposal.

The library is located in “Filipino town,” the hub of Filipino immigrants in LA.

Two Filipino-American media organizations headed by Pangasinan-born journalists are strongly endorsing the proposal.

These are the Philippine Global Media Group of Dan E. Nino, former president of the Pangasinan Brotherhood-USA, and Roger Oriel’s Asian Journal Publications, Inc.

Bulosan was born in Binalonan, Pangasinan on Nov. 24, 1913. He died on Sept 11, 1930 at the young age of 42. He arrived in America on July 01, 1930. He is Oriel’s townmate.

Bulosan’s The Laughter Of My Father, a collection of satirical short stories, was a best seller in 1944. (Leonardo J Galvez, Punch U. S. Correspondent)
