Obituary for Engr. Lope C. Catubig Jr.

ENGR. Lope Capua Catubig, Jr. of Hawthorne, CA, and Dagupan City, Philippines, joined his Creator on June 27th, just over a week after his 89th birthday.

As a young Engineer in the 1960’s, he distinguished himself as a Project Engineer at the Pangasinan Public Works and Highways, supervising the building of roads and bridges across the province. One bridge, he was particularly proud of is the Balococ Bridge, later renamed Padilla Bridge, that leads to the town of Bugallon.

Lope, Jr, fondly called Bing or Bingo in the family circle, is the second and the eldest boy in the family of five of Lope Ayson Catubig, Sr and Genoveva Dizon Capua. His siblings are Perla Catubig Rigor, the eldest and only girl, Atty Luis “Louie”, erstwhile Delegate to the 1971 Constitutional Convention, appointed Vice Mayor, and youngest councilor of Dagupan City, Dr Eduardo Catubig, former Branch Manager of DBP, and Ricardo “Rex” Catubig.

He is survived by his beloved wife Celia Salazar, and children Evelyn Vargas, Lope III, Christine, Jean Dy, Ma Teresa “Gigi” Asiddao, and Hazel Joy Choy; Daughter-in-law Ivy Bautista; sons-in-law Ferdie Vargas, Albert Dy, Domingo “Dondi” Asiddao, Michael Choy; Grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Viewing of his remains and wake will be on July 25, 3-7 p.m., at the Holy Cross Risen Christ Chapel, 5835 W Slauson Ave, Culver City.

The funeral mass and services will be held on July 26 at 930 am at the same place.
