Trump talk

MY good friend and tokayo Leonie J. Galvez, a dyed- in- the-wool Donald Trump fan, handed me three copies of Time Magazine, and one latest issue of Sports Illustrated when he and his life partner Susan arrived last week from Los Angeles, California.

The couple were here less than three years ago when Trump was still campaigning for the GOP nomination, which he won automatically without firing a single shot.

That time, he gave me a MAGA (Make America Great Again) cap as gift and souvenir from Mr. Donald Trump, including a variety of U.S. magazines for me to read during my spare time.

But in his latest trip to PH, he brought me — along with the Time Magazine and Sports Illustrated — a maroon-colored cap with the word “Hollywood” embossed in front and “California” in the rim, for me to look ‘stateside’ whenever I wear it.

Now 92 years old and still spright and strong despite his age, he lives with Susan just four kilometers away from Hollywood, where they are maintaining a kiddie school. Both he and Susan are educators.

One of the Time magazines he handed to me while cooling ourselves at Star Plaza Hotel Restaurant had Trump in its cover page, an issue after he was elected anew as U.S. president.

He was all praise to his idol Trump and is supportive of all the policies that he has been imposing since his day one in the Oval Office. This includes the imposition of higher tarrifs to goods entering U.S. from neighboring Mexico and Canada, a move that was met with a howl of protest from the two countries.

He supports Trump’s crackdown against undocumented aliens living in America, which may include some Filipino TNTs, in keeping with the President’s nationalistic motto “America is for the Americans” policy.

Many Americans hate Donald Trump but there are more who love him and made him anew as president. His down-to-earth policies, according to Mr. Galvez, makes him as one of the greatest U. S. Presidents.

Leonie believes that as U.S. president, Mr. Trump will soon be finally exonerated of all the cases filed against him.

Leonie talked about Trump’s determination to end the wars in the Middle East between Israel and Hamas, and in Ukraine where he noted that people are being killed by the hundreds every day. This is good because the protracted war in Ukraine for three long years is bringing many nations on the brink of seeing World War 3.

I hope Donald Trump will succeed in this regard. But as peace mediator, he need not take any side of the conflict.

But what’s this report that came out that he is cuddling the Russians whom he thought as the victims of the war and not the aggressors? Was Mr. Trump misinformed?

There was a peace negotiation in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in a bid to finally end the Ukraine War. But we saw on BBC that only Russians and Americans were on the negotiating table, and not anyone from Ukraine. This is unfair and discriminatory to the Ukrainians fighting to drive away the invaders out of their land.

More than that, Trump thinks of Volodymir Zelensky as a dictator because he did not have a fresh mandate from the Ukrainian people, despite the fact that election in his country was postponed on account of the Russian invasion.

European leaders who know the whole story rallied to the side of Zelensky and vowed to support his continuing struggle to free his country from the Russian invaders.

Fact of the matter is, UK and France — two NATO countries that sent war materials in support of Ukraine — already expressed interest to put their boots on Ukrainian soil in a bid to protect Ukraine.

All the nations of the world know that it was the Russians who fired the first shot on February 24, 2021 by sending columns of tanks launched from Russia’s strategic ally, Belarus, on the pretext of just making short and quick military operation.

I believe Mr. Trump must rethink his policy towards Ukraine and towards its president Volodimir Zelinsky, a

former comedian who won the presidency months before the Russian invasion began and became the symbol of Ukrainian resistance.

The Ukrainians, like Filipinos who fiercely resisted the Japanese during World War 2, want peace in their own land as much as the Russians.

Mr. Trump, as President of the most powerful nation of the world, please give them peace!
