An unlikely reconciliation
By Gonzalo Duque
I found it funny that the administration of President Bongbong Marcos has offered to reconcile with the Dutertes without any precondition at all.
The Dutertes, I believe, will never reconcile with the President, given the result of the May 12 elections and the impending impeachment trial in the Senate of Vice President Sara Duterte.
It was really a big waste of resources that Speaker Martin Romualdez went on a frenzy in his bid to unseat the VP.
This started when he asked the left-leaning representatives to question the budget of the Office of the Vice President, especially on the disbursement of confidential funds.
Then, he followed this up with the proposed amendment of the Constitution seeking to convert the presidential form of government into a parliamentary system that will do away with the position of the vice president.
Not succeeding in that endeavor, he formed the QuadCom committee to investigate the Duterte father and daughter in order to humiliate them and paint a picture of them in the eyes of the public as corrupt, human rights violators and all kinds of accusations anyone can throw against them.
Yes, there were a lot of hearings conducted by the QuadCom going into the mid-term election period.
Last December, they impeached Vice President Sara Duterte for a lot of her alleged perceived violations, but centered mainly on the use of her confidential funds.
Well, they filed four impeachment complaints against her, but it was the last complaint that was forwarded to the Senate for trial.
Then on March 11, they arrested former President Digong Duterte and immediately brought him to The Hague in the Netherlands to face trial before the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The mid-term election, despite the alleged questionable manipulations of the results by the Comelec, several candidates of the PDP Laban and those endorsed by Sara Duterte won.
Today, many pundits are saying that President Marcos has become a lame duck president.
We conclude that if they continue to harass VP Sara Duterte and former President Duterte, who by the way overwhelmingly won as mayor of Davao City, together with his children and grandchildren, Sara will surely become the next president of the Republic come 2028.

We were informed that the majority of the Dagupan City council wanted to pass several ordinances that could bind the administration of Mayor Belen Fernandez to some financial accountabilities as their way of manifesting their concern to those who will become the beneficiaries of the proposed edicts.
This is good. At last, they finally came to their senses in prioritizing the welfare of clerks of courts, employees of the city government, permanent or job order, elected or appointed, and outstanding athletes and their trainers and coaches.
Ang ganda ng adhikain nila!
But, this I can say is too late the hero! Bakit hindi ninyo ginawa yan noon?

We are exceedingly impressed by the workaholic disposition of our Dagupan Mayor Belen Fernandez as she monitors non-stop the progress of work at the Bonuan dumpsite as well as the improvement and elevation of roads, and the construction of bigger drainage systems in our city.
Fr. Soc Villegas must be very happy because flooding in his area, where the St. John the Evangelist Cathedral is located, will finally be minimized, if not totally solved.
Jovellanos Street, a flood-prone area between the cathedral and the city plaza, is now bout 98% complete.
On this score, I congratulate the Home Along Houseware Store that opened last May 30 along A.B. Fernandez Avenue.
Kiku San, another Japanese restaurant recently opened at the River Grove along De Venecia Expressway, adding to other businesses that opened during the administration of Mayor Belen.
Both of these belie the contention of her detractors that the elevation of roads in the city has discouraged potential investors.
