The influence of religious groups
By Gonzalo Duque
THE latest action of the Makabayan and Akbayan groups for the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte has now been nipped in the bud.
The groups know that an impeachment proceeding is next to impossible for lack of time.
With the forthcoming elections, any move to impeach VP Sara Duterte is considered counter productive.
Further, the numbers game in the House of Representatives and the Senate will not be achieved. Believe me!
The Iglesias Ni Cristo (INC) is planning to hold a rally on a still undetermined date in support of the call of President Marcos for Congress not to proceed with the impeachment and instead focus on major and fundamental legislative programs.
I’m quite sure that our congressional and senatorial wannabes will think twice before they pursue the impeachment process.
Natatakot sila kasi baka mawalan sila ng suporta sa Iglesia Ni Cristo at Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC).
The Jesus is the Lord (JISL) movement, I guess, might also join the call of PBBM for Congress not to support the VP’s impeachment.
The impeachment action of the Makabayan and Akbayan, you know, is really just for political purposes.
My take is papogi lang ito ng mga senatorial and partylist candidates of both groups. What sez you!

Since I wrote here in my column about the nightmare I had about the possibility of Celia and her son Brian beating the incumbents Mayor Belen Fernandez and Vice Mayor Bryan Kua, many had been calling me, telling me that my hallucination during my sleep might yet come true.
Thus, they want me to continue my nightmare, which I cannot guarantee to be the same as the one I narrated.
Joking aside, the support of the INC and some other religious groups might spell the difference between winning and losing.
It already happened before, and there is a possibility it can happen again.

The potential of Pangasinan to become a premier province is now swiftly taking shape.
The 6th District in the eastern corridor of the province, as pointed out by my good friend Ranjit Shahani, is now bustling with economic activities never seen before in years.
I agree with Ranjit. By the way, Ranjit is running for board member of the 6th District. But methinks, he is better off in the foreign service as he really is a career envoy. His advantage over most of us is Ranjit studied abroad and lived in places where his late mother, Senator Leticia Ramos Shahani, was assigned as a diplomat. Ranjit had just served as one of the top officials of the Manila Economic Cooperation Office in Taiwan.
In addition to the narratives of Ranjit, the 5th District is also booming with Urdaneta as the center. It is now the beehive of multi-billion peso economic activities. Urdaneta itself has just become the only first class city of Pangasinan, overtaking both Dagupan and San Carlos.
Let us look at the development of the four cities of Pangasinan.
Alaminos City jumps from fourth to third class; San Carlos City from third to second class; Urdaneta City from second to first class.
What about Dagupan? It remained as a second class city dahil natulog sa kangkongan ang siyudad ng tatlong taon under the leadership of then Mayor Brian Lim and his associates from July 2019 to June 2022.
Then the past two years of the administration of Mayor Belen Fernandez was rocked by constant and continuing obstruction and sabotage perpetrated by men and women of the former city administration.
Speaking of Dagupan, sa totoo lang, nakakahiya talaga tayo, Belen.
As of this time, the new city hall being constructed in front of the old one has yet to be finished. Ano kaya ang magiging itsura ng bagong city hall natin?
Advance Merry Christmas and Preposterous, este Prosperous New Year to all!
