Campaign for 2025 starts
By Gonzalo Duque
WE have observed that a lot of would-be candidates for the different elective positions in the 2025 mid-term elections are already feverishly campaigning even before the go-ahead shot could be fired.
In this case, these different candidates have found that unless one has filed his or her certificate of candidacy, the candidate can still go to town proclaiming they are the Messiah that should be voted in 2025.
I find it incomprehensible that this particular defect in the law has not been remedied by legislation until now. This defect in the law is being taken advantage of by any would-be candidate anytime.
Sabagay, once they advertise themselves even before the date of filing on October 1 to 8 this year, (this time without any substitution), marami na ang kakatok sa kanilang pintuan at hihingi ng ayuda and greeting them Merry Christmas.
At hindi lang pala Merry Christmas, pati pambili ng kandila para sa kanilang mga mahal sa buhay on All Saints Day and All Souls Day. Lalong magastos ito para sa kanila.
Of course, this does not apply to Mayor Belen Fernandez, the sitting mayor of Dagupan. She has plenty of goods to give.

The La Niña phenomenon has just started. Our weather forecasters are saying that we should brace for more rains and typhoons because the rising temperature of our seas and oceans will make our people suffer more.
The devastation brought about by the past Typhoon “Carina” and now “Enteng”, says it all.
It seems that our country is still not prepared to meet all the challenges as a consequence of typhoons.
Moreover, the devastations brought about by the different typhoons only proved that the claim by no less than President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in his State of the Nation Address that there are 550 or so flood control projects all over Metro Manila, resulted in more floodings and devastations.
Congressmen had been claiming that many of these projects were non- existent. Corruption is still the greatest hindrance to our national survival.

Going back to the DPWH projects in Dagupan, methinks that the 7 epaLiFes must be frustrated because most of the infrastructure projects built by the agency are holding and proving their worth.
I am quite sure that the seven clowncilors, er councilors, are waiting for that day that Dagupan will again be submerged as a result of flooding.
I was informed that the DPWH project along Tapuac, from YMCA to Nazareth Hospital is about to start.
The difference between the administration of Belen and that of ex-Mayor Brian Lim is that Belen took all the bullets as a result of the different projects, while Brian—together the other councilors aligned with him— suspended the execution of all national projects.
In fairness to Belen, she secured all these projects with the help of Congressman Toff de Venecia despite the violent objection of the majority clowncilors.
Examples of these projects are the multi-purpose building in Bonuan Boquig sponsored by Senator Francis Tolentino, a bicycle lane along JDV Expressway sponsored by Senator Jinggoy Estrada, the One-Bonuan Pavillon in Bonuan Binloc sponsored by Senator Risa Hontiveros, and several more projects sponsored by Senator Imee Marcos, former Senator and now Education Secretary Sonny Angara, Congressman Toff and Eskimo Estrella.
Did I miss the other donors to Dagupan’s survival?
Belen pleaded for all these national projects, knowing that the seven epaLiFes would be unkind to her and not willing to give her the budgets due her administration.
