CONGRATULATIONS to The Sunday Punch for adding another milestone in its history as a fighting community newspaper—its 68th anniversary. The Sunday Punch is now the longest surviving community newspaper in the country today.

The Baguio Midland Courier, the oldest community newspaper in Baguio and the Cordilleras established in 1947, closed down recently because it can no longer sustain its viability.

The onset of modern technology made the printing press a commodity or a thing of the past. Everyone is now into social media. If ever, community papers could just become a part of the social media chamber.

So, instead of accepting the defeat or surrender of community papers, we should welcome the development of technology via social media and adjust to our audience for our sustainability.

With the historical value and social relevance of The Sunday Punch’s online edition (https://punch.dagupan.com/), it can continue to reach out to a larger audience through social media networking.

I hope Ermin and I are on the same page. Mabuhay ang The Sunday Punch!

The recent attempt on the life of former U.S. President Donald Trump is sending us a message.

He was able to survive the attempt on his life and continue his presidential run that could bring him back to the Oval Office.

As we all know, since day one of his presidential climb, he has been the subject of a lot of attempts. The Democrats had attempted to impeach him during his presidency by filing a lot of foolish charges. They have not succeeded.

When he announced his run for the presidency sometime in November last year, the Democrats have not stopped persecuting him by filing a series of court suits against him. Many of these suits were just nuisance suits, yet he has remained steadfast.

They even called him a lot of names from Hitler to Satan and yet, they have not succeeded in destroying him.

They have doubled their rhetoric that suggested that he be eliminated at all costs because if elected, it would be the end of democracy in America.

So, the unsuccessful attempt on his life makes him now the leading presidential candidate in the coming U.S election in November this year.

Methinks, Trump will win but the way the Democrats have reportedly allowed the crossing of the borders of some 18 million illegal aliens, the Democrats are sure of beating the Republicans. These “illegal immigrants” will be reportedly be the swing votes in Texas, Arizona and Nevada.

We are not surprised that President Joe Biden does not like to withdraw from the presidential race, given his poor performance in recent one-on-one debate with Donald Trump.

I am discussing the politics prevailing  in the U.S. today because the Democrats in the U.S. government have planted missiles in the Philippines, making us easy target of China.

If Donald Trump wins as he already predicted, he will abandon the idea of protecting Taiwan and allow China to retake that country it still considers as its province. Then take out the missiles planted in the Philippines.

Trump already indicated that Taiwan should pay the U.S. for protecting that country from China.  This is a very strong message against Taiwan, a message that augurs well for our country and in preserving peace in Southeast Asia.

His view on still raging Russia-Ukraine War? Trump believes the money budgeted for this war could be saved. No less than Trump’s running-mate J.D. Vance said he wants the war budget to fund American projects instead.

So, a Trump-Vance victory in the U.S. polls, will be good for the Philippines and the world.

Meanwhile, the alleged scandal involving Comelec officials exposed by Congressman Rodante Marcoleta is disturbing amid preparations for our 2025 elections.

This will likely make our Supreme Court decide on the motion for reconsideration filed by Smartmatic against MIRO Corporation, the new technology provider approved by the Comelec.

A win-win solution needs to be found to avoid any suspicion of undue favoritism between MIRO and Smartmatic. If this case is not solved, we might end up doing manual election.

Sa akin, mas maganda yon.

I have it from reliable sources that  if the manual election is adopted, the Espinos who ruled the capitol for 15 long years, will run and field their candidates in the 2025 elections. The election in Dagupan will be more exciting too.

Let’s wait how this scenario evolves.
