VP Sara as head of the opposition
By Gonzalo Duque
THE resignation Sara Duterte as Secretary of Education has been long in coming. Everybody has long been expecting her resignation.
Many are aware that the Vice President has been treated as an outsider in the Marcos administration.
It must be lonely to be an outsider but she will now have the opportunity to become the leader of the opposition in the forthcoming political struggle.
We all know that in the mid-term election, being in the opposition, is a lonely game because of the absence of money and other resources.
Matagal pa kasi ang 2028. Many things will still happen before that.
This was what I predicted long time ago when Sara, then mayor of Davao City, allowed herself to run for Vice President of Bongbong, disobeying the advice of her father, Digong.
The consensus in the camp of Digong then was for her to run for President win or lose. If she did so and won, she can continue the good works of then President Digong Duterte.
When this did not happen everything else was easy for President Bongbong and company.
Sayang talaga!

I have not been discussing the political activities in the provincial level in this column.
From where I sit, I think Gov. Mon-Mon Guico and the rest of his teammates will easily get reelected because of their closeness to the present administration.
Methinks, anyone who would challenge them, like former Governor and Congressman Amado Espino Jr., may only offer a symbolic challenge but everything else will be preparatory to the 2028 national elections.
So, whatever happens in the local election would make the losing candidate the opposition in the 2028 national elections, assuming that the war will not happen soon between China and the United States that would make the Philippines the unwilling victims of such conflict.
I am okay being an observer in our national and local political battles.
Huwag lang yong kinakatakutan nating giyera sa West Philippine Sea.
The heightened tension in the area has made us more pessimistic in resolving the conflict between China and her allies, namely Russia, North Korea and Iran on one hand and the U.S. Japan. Australia, UK, France and others on the other hand.
Even BBM has warned our soldiers to prepare for war which may come anytime soon.
Coming from the mouth of the President himself and knowing the effect of the tension between China and the U.S., as well as their respective allies, our President is believable.
At this time, we can only wish that we are not part of the conflict by being neutral and not become a ground for warfare.
Let us hope and pray na lang. That’s all we can do.

Happy 77th charter anniversary for Dagupan City on June 20.
How I wish that the seven-man majority councilors in the Sangguniang Panlungsod and Mayor Belen Fernandez will reconcile and mend their differences. But I guess that what is happening—as things stand—I might be asking for the moon. You know already what I mean.
Happy birthday too on June 20 to former Governor and Congressman Amado Espino Jr., father of another former Governor Pogi Espino. We have yet to hear from him about his political plan in 2025.
