Marcos administration under siege
By Gonzalo Duque
THE onset of modern communications technology has made our political conversations easier to be appreciated by the public.
Many political leaders have fallen and lost their grip on power because it is now easier to call people to assemble and stage a people power.
Let’s take the case of the recent issue that besieges the Marcos administration today.
If left unchecked or uncontrolled, the possibility of President Bongbong Marcos and his administration experiencing a people power just what happened to his father, Ferdinand Edralin Marcos in 1986, will not be remote.
We have a lot of problems today—inflation, uncontrolled prices of commodities, joblessness, illegal drugs, corruption in all levels from national down to the local governments, the West Philippine Sea, and ehem…. including the so-called PDEA leaks exposed by a certain Jonathan Morales, and others—that need to be answered.
From the looks of it, parang ang mga tao ngayon are losing their trust in the government because of recent issues popping out that are left unanswered. Recent surveys would show that the President suffered a drop in his trust rating that even his political handlers kuno no longer include his name in surveys.
Ang nakikita kong naging focus ng administration today is to go on high gear next election. There’s nothing wrong with that. But first, bring down the prices of commodities, give them jobs. They will be happy.
By the way, election in the Philippines is the opium of the people. A lot of people are happy if elections are held. Alam ninyo na kung bakit.
If the present trend will continue, we might be in for a big surprise. We hope this will not happen because our country and people will be vulnerable to a lot of pressures, from within and from the outside.

The majority councilors approved the supplemental budgets only for the employees, which was long been overdue for the last five months, but discriminated against the big majority of our people in the city of Dagupan.
And yet, they claimed (and had photo ops on this) to be the heroes. Lumang tugtugin na yan! The SRI and gratuity pay of employees were due them last Christmas so they could enjoy the fruits of their labor, perhaps enjoy a sumptuous dinner with their loved ones. But for a stupid reason that the SP majority will be violating the subjudice law, they abandoned the employees (more than 14,000 of them) and their families to spend Christmas with empty stomachs. They will not forget this.
For approving the SRI and the Gratuity Pay only this month of May, the clown-cilors of Dagupan have become a laughing stock in Philippines and in the world.
The 7 clown-cilors didn’t even care if six of the retired employees from year 2022 already died without enjoying their benefits from the Dagupan City government.
Discriminated against are the programs of Mayor Belen Fernandez that seek to solve the garbage problem of the city, mitigate flood in different barangays, construct and repair school buildings and gymnasiums, backfilling and fencing of the about-to-be completed Super Family Health Center in Bolosan, purchase of a lot as site of another Super Family Health Center, repair of the Dagupan City Swimming Pool, hiring of additional nurses and personnel of the city health office, etcetera, etcetera.
All the projects rejected proposed by the Barangay Captains are all meant to alleviate the plight of their people. That’s why when they appeared before the Sanggunian last Tuesday, together with Mayor Belen and the department heads, they went home angry and frustrated at the harsh treatment that they got from the majority seven.
Worse, the SP majority said they had not totally rejected the other proposed projects of the city government but are simply “for further study”. Who are they fooling?
It’s very obvious that everything they did was about their politics.
Well, as I’d said before the only way this could be settled is for Belen to field a solid team in the 2025 election from mayor down to councilor and fight it out with whoever they will face, the discredited majority seven headed again by Brian Lim or it’s Celia and Irene or Red Erfe-Mejia this time?
Walang magagawa muli si Belen if she will not get the majority because the common denominator here is, whoever will get the bigger number in the next election, will again rule the city. That was the evil philosophy of the majority seven.
