AS next year’s elections loom on the horizon, many are wondering about Governor Monmon Guico’s feelings — Is he worried? Excited? Anxious? Or, perhaps he’s confidently anticipating victory?

During a recent interview with Gov. Guico, in Lingayen during the celebration for President Bongbong Marcos’ birthday, we intentionally steered clear of political questions, wanting to respect the celebratory nature of the event. Our focus remained on updates regarding crucial projects, particularly in health care, following the governor’s passionate speech on the subject.

However, in a surprisingly jovial mood, Governor Guico prompted us with a question of his own: “Are you not going to ask me about politics?” This opened the door to a lively discussion, and we eagerly dove in.

I started by asking about his frequent visits to Urdaneta City. The governor shared several insightful reasons for these visits, which our readers can expect to find detailed in a separate story in this issue.

It’s no secret that his wife, Maan Tuazon-Guico, is being groomed as a strong contender for the mayoralty of Urdaneta. Their frequent appearances in the city certainly suggest a strategic push, but Governor Guico also provided a more nuanced explanation involving community engagement and resource allocation.

Will Madam Maan mirror the success of former First Lady Priscilla Espino, who transitioned into the role of mayor of Bugallon? Only time will tell.

Abangan!

As we ponder the implications of these developments, another question arises: How does Governor Monmon feel about former Governor Pogi Espino’s recent basketball-friendly matches around Pangasinan?

While no official announcement has confirmed whether Pogi is staging a political comeback, the buzz among supporters is palpable. They’ve shown excitement online, and it’s clear that even those within the Capitol are taking noticeMarami kaming nama-marites. Governor Monmon might need to keep a watchful eye.

Currently, the Espinos’ media allies remain tight-lipped about Pogi’s potential candidacy. However, sources indicate that one of the Espinos will likely run for governor, either the father or the son. The absence of press conferences or interviews with either former Governor Pogi or Amado Jr. adds to the air of mystery, with only a few social media posts hinting at their intentions.

Moreover, as mayors shift their loyalty to the incumbent governor, one has to wonder — who will be left to support the Espinos? In conversations with their media representatives, I was repeatedly told they have their own strategies in place. The phrase “Let’s volt in” has emerged, hinting at a significant political maneuver when the time is right.

Are we witnessing the preparation for a comeback with a vengeance? It’s yet another reason to stay tuned. Another abangan!

As excitement mounts in anticipation of the upcoming election season, the window for filing certificates of candidacy is fast approaching, scheduled for October 1 to 8. News outlets will undoubtedly have their hands full covering events at the Comelec offices, especially at the provincial office in Dagupan City.

Governor Monmon Guico expressed a strong sense of confidence regarding his chances for a second term, noting his previous victories over the Espinos — first in the fifth congressional district against Amado Espino Jr. and again in the gubernatorial race against the then incumbent governor, Amado ‘Pogi’ Espino III.

Being the sitting governor carries significant weight, and he knows it.

As we prepare for what promises to be an electrifying election season, one thing is certain: there are many developments to watch for in the coming months.

Abangan!
