Two senators were in Pangasinan, again
By Eva C. Visperas
SENATORS Imee Marcos and Bong Go are frequenting the Land of Salt lately.
Sen. Go went to Umingan and San Carlos City on two separate occasions this month of April.
Presidential sister Imee visited Pangasinan in March and again last April 13.
This makes me wonder, is the campaign season early? The two are mysteriously very visible lately. What could be the reason?
When Sen. Imee came to Dagupan late last year for the lighting ceremony of the Christmas lights on Quintos Bridge and in front of the city plaza, I felt a big difference when she was newly-elected and now that she is the presidential sister.
Of course, security preparations were different, tight and stricter being the presidential sister.
She was also here for the distribution of Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) in tandem with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
I was observing her then and wondered what will be her next political plans.
As for Sen. Bong Go, he is equally busy going around even if his Tatay Digong (former President Duterte) is no longer in power.
His sidekick, popular showbiz actor Philip Salvador, is constantly with him to provide comic intermission during Go’s long narration.
There were also bonuses in San Carlos when he visited last Tuesday, giving away bicycles, sneakers, basketballs, volleyballs and cellular phones to get more audience attention. Good move for the Ang Bisyo ay Magserbisyo senator! His audience were more attentive and participative.
But sadly, no media interview, we were told.
Thanks to the AICS distribution, it makes the senators like them become more visible in provinces like ours, with more time to mingle with the people and consult local leaders, as well.
But the visitation of such “political gods” makes me wonder, “Ano’ng meron? May balak?”
By the way, Super Ate Imee was apparently peeved by the inconsistent announcements of the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the National Food Authority (NFA about rice supply shortage in the country. She said she no longer listens to them.
In a quick media interview, the Super Ate said, “Sabihin ko sa ‘yo ha? Hindi na ako masyadong nakikinig sa mga anunsyo ng DA at NFA eh litong-lito na ako”. She said statements from the two agencies are contradictory and confusing.
“Honestly nahihilo po ako. I don’t know. Pwede bang sumagot ng sirit?,” the senator commented with a grin.
As Sen. Imee loves to say, “Nakakaloka!”
