There’s a magic wand for R1AA Wonderland
By Eva Visperas
ONE can imagine it that way when the Schools Division Office (SDO) of San Carlos City hosts the Region 1 Athletic Association (R1AA) Meet from May 14-19, bringing the young athletes to a magical world that promises to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
San Carlos has a special place in my heart as I grew up there and studied elementary and high school in the city of amputi layag (white ears).
Amputi layag was how San Carlenians like us were traditionally called, and up to now, that signified our fearlessness and bravery.
Dr. Sheila Marie Primicias, OIC-schools division superintendent of SDO San Carlos is one brave woman.
No one from among the schools superintendents in Region 1 was willing to accept the gigantic task of hosting R1AA.
For who would willingly accept it when they have only two months to prepare? That is tough. It normally takes a year to get ready for a big event like the R1AA.
“Kung walang tatanggap, ako na po ang sasagot,” Primicias told Regional Director Tolentino Aquino when superintendents were gathered for the R1AA hosting.
Then, the Amazing Sheila (Sheilamazing as she is called) did what many feared. She accepted the challenge boldly.
In her Facebook page and the SDO San Carlos’ as well, one can do a throwback at how she, at the helm of the challenge, and with the full support of the LGU under Mayor Ayoy Resuello, is coping with the gargantuan task.
After meeting various sectors and ironed out some kinks, she invited the local media on April 19 to present the initial strides made and the readiness of the SDO to host the games.
Now, Madam Sheila would like to make a difference for R1AA 2023.
Her idea is to make the event memorable for the participating children.
“The Meet is for the children… They should be the center of the celebration,” she stressed.
Thus, the magical welcome up to the magical closing is at hand.
“Para syang Disneyland,” she said, adding that she wants them to feel the magical stay for R1AA 2023 in San Carlos City.
Look at some of these events prepared: Magical Welcome at Billeting Schools where there will be clowns/mascots to meet and greet them and stuffed toys as giveaways at their billeting schools, Magical Day for Our Little Superheroes/Athletes, A Magical Moment with SDS/ASDSs.
During the opening program, the backdrop/photobooth will have different Disney themes, assigned per SDO like ‘Mickey& Minnie’ for Candon City, ‘Frozen’ for Dagupan, ‘Sesame Street’ for Laoag, ‘Minions’ for San Carlos, ‘Pokemon’ for San Fernando City, ‘Star Wars’ for Urdaneta City, ‘Carnival’ for Vigan City, ‘Toy Story’ for IIocos Norte, ‘Safari’ for Ilocos Sur, ‘Disney Princess’ for La Union, ‘Teen Titans’ for Pangasinan 1, ‘Justice League’ for Pangasinan II, ‘Sponge Bob & Patrick’ for Alaminos City and ‘Spiderman’ for Batac.
This entails a lot of hard work. But with their theme: “One Spirit, One Team United We Win Hataw Rehiyon Uno,” I’m sure they can do it.
Make that seemingly impossible dream possible. Go for it!
