YES, don’t be surprised if you see an all-white exterior of Capitol Building in Lingayen, the seat of provincial government power, in your next visit.

As of this writing, its repainting is almost done.

Truth is, before Gov. Monmon Guico delivered his State of the Province Address, the refurbishing of the Capitol building has started. Nakalimutan lang daw niyang banggitin sa kanyang SOPA.

The Capitol is now painted white, saktong-saktong symbolic of purity, the governor said when he delivered his speech for the Agew na Pangasinan/Pista’y Dayat opening program on April 3.

White for purity, he said. White to denote the color of the roots of Pangasinan which is salt.

And which, according to him, something that he would like to pursue in our province.

A little historical flashback here, especially for the young generation. Salt was a commodity used as basis for currency in the olden times. “Not dollar, nor gold but salt,” Gov Monmon added.

If you recall, ang last na kulay ng ating Kapitolyo during the father-and-son Espino reign  had a touch of yellow, like gold.

Ehem ehem, may ibang komento ang ilang malilikot ang utak. I heard one reporter say, “Para ma-erase ang memory ng nakalipas na admin?”

Another guy was quick to say that it can never be erased as it is already part of history.

C’mon. Let’s give it to the man, ex-Gov. Ama Espino. One cannot deny it was he who bravely initiated the major facelifting of the Capitol building. The bottom line after that was it became a sight to behold, an awesome inspiration to other LGUs, the pride of Pangasinan.

Inggit much ang mga bumibisita mula sa ibang lalawigan.

Now, the gold color is gone.

It’s back to its original color, reminiscent of the buildings built during the American regime, the incumbent gov said.

Vice Gov. Mark Lambino, of course, is all-out as usual in his support to this yet another Guico move. He cited historical accounts.

Lambino and his fellow members of the provincial board hold their office at the Capitol, especially on Monday, their session day. And, the governor also holds his office there, especially when VIPs come.

The Guico admin hired a master planner who gives importance to heritage and culture.

They started it in the Capitol building. Expect other old structures there, like Malong, Kalantiao and Urduja House to turn white, too.

Walang erase-erase the memory of this and that politico. Only back to its original color, for the sake of history.

You see, Pangasinan is already 443 years so if you trace back, napakayaman po ng ating history, the governor added during our ambush interview.

Kaya magsitigil na kayo, mga Marites, Maricon, Marisol at Tolits.

Yun lang yun (daw)!  Bow!
