I wrote “Yellow Light” to start the Poetree Train, a chain of poems about trees to celebrate the World Poetry Day nine years ago, 01 March 2016 published in “Kiew: An Anthology of Tree Poems”, a collection of 148 tree poems and ten translations into English with the participation of 47 international poets from 17 countries and launched at the 11th International Writers’ Festival at Mohanlal Sukhadia University, Udaipur, India on 14th October 2016. Kiew is a publication of the Asia-Pacific EcoPoetree Festival, a project of the International Visitor Leadership Program-Philippines, the Pangasinan Historical and Cultural Commission, and the Women in Development Foundation.

in the end, there’s just me
and the silhouette of pine trees
on a full moon
where we used to see
through the darkness
where you and I were
in all corners of darkness

I remember, the texture
of every acorn and pine cone
on my back, on my feet
braving the kiss of the cold mist
dancing barefoot to the music
of light, from the fireflies

i remember, too, glancing at the sea
dotted with yellow lights
and wondered why such magic
appears only in the night
under the shade of trees

you told me, fully believing:
Those lights are doing
what we are doing
in the light of the moon.”

the moon comes, every now and then
caressing the waves, riding the tides
on the shore of yellow lights
where you became one light
among the many shining lights
in the night, sentinels of the sea

and I dance, looking at the magic
below, in the darkness
under the shade of the trees
in the glow of fireflies

i wonder, if you can glimpse
the mountain where we used to be
and where I stand, looking for you
among the lights that look the same
in the dark shadows of pine needles
