Sports Eye
It was written in the Holy Bible
By Jesus A. Garcia Jr.
MY day is never complete until I read some of our national broad sheets. It’s been a habit since I was 12-years old, and my favorite page, naturally was the sports sections. During the time of our national cycling heroes, i.e., Rufino Gabot (from Manaoag) and Mamerto Eden (from Mapandan), I was always watching out for the results of the Tour of Luzon. But more than reading stories about them and other sports personalities, I was interested in reading and learning more about the English language because it was how my beloved Mexican-blooded American father who lived in Pharr, Texas communicated with me.
In time, I was also encouraged to read the Holy Bible by some pastors who told me that our God told us to do so. I have been reading it since April 2003, seriously learning about His Words to this day – from the first scripture’s Book of Moses called “Genesis” up to God’s last book called “Revelation,” that Jesus Christ gave to apostle John when He came back to earth from heaven.
Reading the Bible has given me the chance to understand what’s happening to our troubled world today.
While the world is in quandary on how to beat the dreaded COVID 19 virus that initially infected people around the world on December 2019 and the World Health Organization officially declared a global pandemic on March 2020, I was not the least surprised. The Bible had foretold it. Yes, in the Book of Prophet ISAIAH 26: 20-21, this was written: “Come my people, enter your chambers, and shut your doors behind you; hide yourself, as it were, for a little moment, until the indignation is past. For behold, the Lord comes out of His place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity; the earth will also disclose her blood, and will no more cover her slain.”
And we now see this happening to us. When God said, “enter your chambers, and shut your doors behind you and hide yourself,” the Bible was clearly talking about people who need to be quarantined,
Then, in the Book of Prophet JEREMIAH 11: 11, it was written, “Therefore thus says the Lord: Behold, I will surely bring calamity on them which they will not be able to escape; and though they cry out to Me, I will not listen to them.” Isn’t this about how the virus that knows no race, age, gender, status in the community, has been infecting us and has already killed more than 2 million people?
Yet, there are the atheists who say we should not believe the Holy Bible because it was only written by some human beings. But they’re very wrong. Even their disbelief is written in the Bible, PHILIPPIANS 2: 6-7, “Who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God. But made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.” When Jesus Christ was made to suffer in the hands of His torturers, then pierced to death to redeem our sins, human blood flowed out. It was evidence that He was God who came to us in the form of a human being, like His apostles and His prophets, who wrote God’s words.
Know that in REVELATION 1-3, Jesus Christ said: “Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near.” The Bible prophesied that many among us would be busy reading messages on our cellphones, not His words. The Bible warns that we are and will be punished for what we are today, full of wickedness and away from His teachings. He’s punishing the world again like He did in 1917-1919. And more suffering can be expected with more virus.
Are we nearing the end of the world? It’s time to ponder the words of God in the Bible. Even sports news will have to wait.
