How much is life today in America?
By Al S. Mendoza
RACIAL discrimination it is called.
America’s white being innately superior over the black in virtually every aspect of life.
It’s been a deadly thingamajig since time immemorial.
Ugly. But it’s like the pesky fly in summer: It just persists in showing up without notice.
That’s the tragedy behind the recent death of George Floyd that shook America.
An African American, Floyd died at the hands (knee?) of a white policeman in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Officer Derek Chauvin had his knee on Floyd’s neck for eight minutes and 46 seconds while Floyd was down on the pavement. Handcuffed.
Floyd repeatedly pleaded he couldn’t breathe.
Only when Floyd fell unconscious was he brought to the hospital. Dead on arrival.
Chauvin was fired and charged with murder.
Three other cops at the scene were also dismissed and charged with aiding and abetting murder.
Why was Floyd arrested?
A grocer called the police Floyd had allegedly used a fake $20-bill at the grocer’s store.
Just like that and Chauvin had to brutally knee Floyd, 38, to death?
Would Chauvin have done the same if Floyd were white?
Because the incident was recorded by passersby and went immediately viral, it drew spontaneous public outrage.
In no time, people’s anger spread through more than 40 cities from across America, sparking protests, riots and lootings.
President Trump added fuel to the fire with his usual fumbling style of containing chaos.
His plan to use military power to quell the anarchy quickly drew flak and all the more triggered pandemonium almost nationwide.
As I write this, fury still rages on in the land of so-called milk and honey.
History tells us the Africans in America were bought in Africa in the olden times.
Cruelly, they were called slaves and, as such, they were mere objects, their white masters rarely treating them as human beings.
The early American whites never considered the blacks their co-equal.
It was President Lincoln who ended slavery in America—or so the blacks thought.
Has life really changed for America’s colored?
Even Michael Jordan the GOAT (Greatest Of All Time) that ever played basketball has joined the mix, denouncing Floyd’s death.
He said: “I’m really angry and truly pained.”
Jordan has donated $100 million to organizations devoted to “social and racial discrimination causes,” targeting on “education to better the lives of the disadvantaged in our society.”
He is right—but, of course.
Education has always been the key to level the playing field anywhere in the world.
The whites of America, most of them anyways, love to belittle the blacks, especially those lacking in education.
So, if America’s whites continue to treat America’s blacks as second-class citizens, no surprise there.
Consider it as very much like garbage segregation: biodegradable and biodegradable.
Which of the two is superior?
Your choice.
By the way, investigation proved Floyd’s $20-bill was real.
Life has become that cheap in America?
