Guam invites Pangasinan, Dagupan youth cagers

By Jesus A. Garcia, Jr.

MY first child Jazy just came back from his one month visit to Guam bringing with him an official invitation letter addressed to our province chief executive Amado I. Espino, lll and Dagupan City Mayor Belen T. Fernandez pertaining to the Guam’s Sports Festival 2017 slated on October 31-November 5.

The event is being organized by the office of Guam Senator Tommy A. Morrison this year thru KaiZen Event Coordinators headed by Mr. Vince Acol and Guam born Filipino-American named Ron Ravela as its president.

According to the two-time Olympian Jazy (1992 Barcelona and 2000 Sydney), the multi-event dubbed as “2017 Guam Youth Athletics Invitational Tournament” for badminton, volleyball and basketball is exclusively for the youth to b played in three categories, from 11 years-and-below, U13 and U16.

My only cycling son Jazy said the goal and concept of the competitions is to enhance relationships through friendly skirmishes among the young student athletes from the private and public schools/clubs in Guam and from overseas. He added that while KaiZen Events, through its Philippine coordinator Acol, will endorse their applications for their individual U.S visas, by presenting an official letter of invitation and events program, Jazy, however, clarified that the organizers do not guarantee the granting of a U.S. visa by the U.S. embassy in Manila.

Players with visas, Jazy said, have three options: Option A Package- $1,380 (5-days and 4-nights package of hotel accommodations with daily breakfast buffet only); $1,700 (if package will include a Cebu Pacific round-trip ticket n airline ticket and airport transfer.

Option B Package – $1,480 package (6-days and 5-nights hotel accommodations with daily breakfast buffet only); $1,800 (if package will include a round-trip Unite Airline ticket and airport transfers)

Of course, what can be problematic is the difficulty to get a U.S. visa these days because of the U.S. government’s stringent requirements to apply for visa due to world terrorism. Remember, Guam is a protectorate island of U.S.A. as well as its neighbor island Saipan. Even a single entry visa to Guam will allow you access to the U.S. mainland.

Well-known varsity coach Angel Gumarang who was assigned to head the delegation said “Our joining the Guam youth basketball invitational tournament is breakthrough for Dagupan City sports. If the trip materializes, this is the first time to happen for Dagupan since the sport basketball was born. This break to play internationally will provide enormous experience for us.”

“We’ll be proud to represent our city with the assistance of our sports buff Mayor Belen Fernandez,” Gumarang added.

Carry on guys and good luck. This is your big opportunity and rare occasion that should not be missed. Go for it.
