WHO NEEDS COMELEC CONTROL? The knee-jerk proposal of two politicians asking two towns in Pangasinan to be placed under Comelec control could be sending wrong signal to the people that there is a state of lawlessness in these towns–Urbiztondo and Bayambang.

I asked my friend from Urbiztondo, Ricky, if lawlessness exists in their town and his quick reply was “Wala kuya, guni-guni lang nila yon“.

The same is true in Bayambang.  The incidents that were reported there if indeed these happened, do not warrant the placing of the town under Comelec control.

In fact, not one town in the entire Philippines was ever placed under Comelec control even if certain areas were earlier declared as areas of concern.

Some began wondering if the two politicians who proposed that the two towns be placed under Comelec control understood the implications of their proposal.

My friend Ricky said even if the mayor in his town manhandled a man who suffered contusions in his arms as a result, does not justify the placing of his town under Comelec control.

But look who’s making the proposal for Urbiztondo to be placed under Comelec control.  It’s someone running for a top provincial position. Ugh! – Leonardo Micua

MONEY, MONEY! — Crisp Philippine peso bills abound nowadays. Some keep these for luck or pampa-swerte sa wallet. Others give them as birthday presents especially to kids.
If these were not sourced from the banks through cash withdrawals, these were mostly from politicians who suddenly became generous during the election period.
We’ re now in the homestretch of the campaign. Ilang kembot na lang eleksyon na.
How I wish there’s always an election but not because of the nauseating black propaganda hurled by politcos against rivals but because of the unusual extra care and importance given to the people.
These days, people get lots of giveaway items. Food is in abundance especially during rallies or caucuses and yes, money goes out freely, enough to feed an indigent family for the day.
It’s amazing how candidates and their campaigners suddenly become so kind and patient! That’s why I wish it is always election time, better than Christmas!
I came home one night and there were maroon and black pails, mamon from a re-electionist board member and bagoong and patis waiting for me. My ever-loyal housemate was so thankful.
Unfortunately on May 10, it will be an entirely different story. It’s back to reality. – Tita Roces
