THE UGLIES ARE BACK! They did it again. Another giant tarpaulin of a candidate for an elective post installed near the boundary of Binmaley and Dagupan City was vandalized!

But this time, it was no longer that of former Congressman Mark Cojuangco’s tarpaulins but by Mayor Sammy Rosario and Vice President Jojo Binay’s greetings to the townspeople of Binmaley in their town fiesta celebration that ends on Feb. 4.

Last issue, this corner reported the wanton destruction of Cojuangco’s tarps in Bugallon town. How sad that it happened in the town where the brother of his rival for the gubernatorial post is the mayor.

We emphasized earlier we are not pointing an accusing finger to anyone since we have no evidence to show. I just wonder if the same group did it again, this time in Binmaley town.

The defacement of the tarp happened a day before Liberal Party presidential bet Leni Robredo visited Dagupan City last Tuesday. Could that be a coincidence? I can’t help but really begin to wonder who is behind these childish pranks.

Can’t people just be calm and take things in stride? No need to be “high-blood” besides such destructive pranks only tend to implicate their bosses!

Wag naman yong if you can’t put up your own colorful tarps, destroy others na lang? Magpagawa nga din kayo at ibandera nyo din yang mga pagmumukha nyo!

HOLDING THE CLUP HOSTAGE? We do not understand why the Sangguniang Panlungsod has not moved to approve the proposed Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) that will replace the present one in use, enacted way back in 1978.

A series of public hearings was conducted by city council committee that started way back before last year’s Holy Week. It was attended twice no less by our good friend, Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board Regional Director Teresita Galacgac, whose husband Atty. Aure Galacgac was a colleague in Baguio way back.

Many experts–academicians and professionals– already declared their support for the new CLUP, which they know must be updated every 10 years for it to be in tune with the times.

Even the Regional Land Use Committee (RLUC) composed of various agencies headed by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) already endorsed the proposed CLUP but it seems the SP does not consider the adoption of the new CLUP important enough for the city.

Sadly, the continued indifference displayed by the councilors left Mayor Belen no other choice but leave its fate to the Almighty. “God will make the way for the CLUP,” she said. Perhaps it dawned on her that it is for the better since some of the councilors think they can hold CLUP hostage too, like they did with the annual budget. — Leonardo Micua
