G Spot
Nibbling on the nipple
By Virginia Jasmin Pasalo
ALL over the world, men and women are taking a bold stand, through their art, to call attention to various issues such as climate change, violence against women, peace and order, human rights and other social issues.
Environmental activists have performed in various media to depict the urgency of working with the environment, and not against it, in the pursuit of development plans. Women in Puerto Rico are painting the streets for messages against violence of women, and dozens of women also bared breasts to dramatize their support for the messages expressed in Paz Para La Mujer (Peace for Women), a street mural that was recently vandalized in that country, where the naked female vital parts were over-painted with bras and underpants.
Puerto Rico is not the only place where street art is being used to fight against social issues. In Brazil, streets are being filled with graffiti to generate awareness against domestic violence. In the Philippines, the International Visitor Leadership Program-Philippines (IVLP-Phils.) and the Women in Development (WID) Foundation are in partnership to spearhead a cultural and artistic movement to save trees through historical, cultural and artistic programs and projects.
The art work entitled “Human Nature”, done by Spanish street artist Pejac, is currently being pushed by IVLP-Phils. and the WID Foundation, as a page cover for environmentalists on Facebook, to underscore the value of the relationship between trees and human life.
More and more, change is being anchored on history, culture and art. And this is to be encouraged, because graffiti can be done on the streets, and any artist can explore his imagination and make the streets a venue for desired social changes. Art and cultural initiatives have been proven to subvert social norms and inflexible societal constructs, in a subdued but deeper level of consciousness.

NIPPLES
your planet
forbids nipples
to be seen, they are obscene
and you said, I should draw stars
over them wherever these are shown
or cover them with big black moons
to conceal their existence
from your eyes
but they live
in your consciousness
where stars outshine the darkness
and black moons are washed away
by the pure essence flowing
from the Milky Way
