MUST-SEE CAPITOL – Many may not know it but the Pangasinan provincial capitol is now one of the most preferred government centers for “Lakbay Aral” by government officials and employees.

Last week, I was waiting for three busloads of officials, employees and other citizens of Carles, Iloilo coming to visit the capitol because my sister was in that tour. They were coming from Vigan City after visiting Batac, Sarrat and Paoay, all in Ilocos Norte.

The inclusion of the Pangasinan capitol in their itinerary and in the other Lakbay Aral groups is an affirmation of Governor Amado Espino Jr.’s initiative to refurbish and renovate the Capitol Building and its surrounding areas. The Sison Auditorium, Lingayen Resort Hotel, the Urduja and other magnificent edifices are what the governor called the microcosm of tourism and the show window of Pangasinan.

The piped-in music that one can hear while at the Capitol area waiting for someone while under one of those shade trees is part of the efforts to draw tourists and residents of Lingayen and Pangasinan to the center of governance in the province. The beauty and grandeur that were not seen at any time in the past is a must-see today. – Leonardo Micua

GULLIBLE’S TROUBLE – A group led by a businessman posing as a team to beat in the upcoming local election used to meet and dine in a kambingan restaurant every Friday.

The restaurant was full of diners every Friday until little by little, their supposed financial backer who is also eyeing a provincial seat turned cold as he kept on seeing same faces every week. To him, it means the leadership and following of the businessman also eyeing a mayoralty seat is weak.

The aspirant’s appearances during their Fridate also became scarce but the ambitious businessman continued their weekly gathering until their accumulated bill reached P300,000 plus.

The guy’s dilemma now is how to make his patron, a supposed provincial seat aspirant, shoulder the bill. Political observers in that town in the third district now say,” See, I told you. They won’t last.”

“Will the guy still continue his mayoralty ambition?” someone asked a seasoned politician.

“I doubt. Ompan nilalawlawan labat. Sugsugan da insan da lamlamang pulyanan nu gastusan la. Agto kabat ni su ugali to may pipilaan to,” he smiled, while trying to fix his few remaining hair.—Tita Roces
