They pick Pacman to win
By Jesus A. Garcia Jr.
FORTH WORTH, TEXAS—-The talk of the world now in sports is about the coming mega-bucks world title unification welterweight bout between Floyd “Money” Mayweather, Jr. of U.S. and our Filipino boxing icon Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao on May 3 at the MGM Grand Arena. As of this writing (April 23), Mayweather still holds the 2-1 odds but obviously Fil-Ams here in Texas and California whom I have talked to pick the fighting congressman from Sarangani to win the fight. And they have varied reasons.
Blan Caguioa: Pacman will win because he’s so fast, furious, with incredible footwork and determined to unify the crown. He’s the only world high caliber boxer that I have known to recover quickly after suffering an ugly knockout after beating three world class boxers (Timothy Bradley, Brandon Rios and Chris Algieri). I already bet $300 on him.
Gilbert Mangahis: Win or lose I’m all the way for Pacquiao. He’s a dedicated boxer and humble and I have trust his capability. He’s one of a kind and a gifted boxer.
Giles Honeycutt: I go for Pacquiao because he is a real fighter and not a product of boxing politics. In case he losses the fight, he will still be there in the limelight and more opponents will line up because he’s very popular and loved by the people. If he beats Mayweather, for sure Mayweather’s popularity will surely decline but there will be a rematch.
Duc Van Hoang: Before I was for Mayweather but when I saw the training of Pacquiao on TV I was so impressed with his speed and power and I believe he will win, but by decision. But I don’t like his mother because she acts like a witch during the fight.
Gerald Valdez: I believe what Pacquiao has to do is to shock Mayweather in the very first two rounds to psych and outbalance the flamboyant guy like what he did to Hatton. From there it’s all the way for Pacman. Pacquiao will win either by knockout or by decision.
Wilmac Macayana: I’ll go for Pacquiao. In fact I already bet $150 dollars on him despite being the underdog. He’s my idol today in boxing.
Domingo Almonte: For sure Pacman will win. He likes to be the underdog and that makes him hungry. If Pacman wins by decision, I guess there will be a rematch. And who knows, it could be a series of rematches especially if either of the two fighters won by a controversial decision like what happened to Pacquiao-Marquez battles that reached four encounters. That’s a big possibility.
Efren Abril: Underdog or not, I’ll go for Pacquiao. I’ll be in the Philippines during the fight and watch it there. I’ll have a friendly bet on him like a case of beer or a bottle of wine.
I share what my friends said. Pacquaio will win by decision. Hopefully there will be no unseen hands that will manipulate the results like they did in the Bradley-Pacquiao fight. Let’s pray for Pacman’s victory His victory is also our triumph. He put our country in the sporting map. Amen.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK: Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous; Not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing. 1 PETER 3: 8-9
