QUO VADIS, DUTERTE? The TV ad of Davao Mayor Rodrigo Duterte a few nights ago would finally settle the issue on whether he is running or not. He may be indeed running for a national position, either President, Vice President or Senator.  In an interview he gave to newsmen in the south, he asked: “Who says I am running for President?

Then he went on to blame some newsmen in Dagupan for putting words in his mouth or misinterpretting his doing the rounds of the  country in spreading his call for federalism. In Dagupan, was it Allan Sison who asked Duterte – “In case you are running (sic) for President, who would you choose to be your Vice President?” There was a long pause from Duterte then he tapped Allan’s shoulder and said ” Ikaw na,” That alone should give us a hint that he may not be eyeing for the highest position of the land after all but, something lower than that. – Leonardo Micua

PUNCHING BAG. An employee of one town in the Fourth District cried, hurt, emotionally battered after a supposed honorable gentleman who presides over a municipal council gave him a tongue-lashing in front of many people concerning arrangements for the town fiesta celebration.

It’s like this. The town’s vice mayor didn’t like his perennial role delivering closing remarks in the fiesta celebration program. The vice mayor feels that nobody listens to him since his speaking part is the last part of the program. He wanted a speaking part in the first or middle part of every event.

But alas, the poor employee, who obviously was not in control of deciding on details of a program but a committee appointed by the mayor, was at the receiving end of the vice mayor’s fury.

Ah but the mayor and the vice mayor in that town are at odds. So perhaps since the vice mayor knows he cannot have his way with the mayor who purposely wanted his veem’s role that way, the lowly employee had to be the punching bag.

Sir Vice Mayor, why not let your work do the talk in your town? Never mind the importance of a speaking role. If you are really a doer, you don’t have to impress your audience with your speech. Instead, let your good public service record speak for you!- Tita Roces
