WHEN THE TRUSTED CHEATS. To politicians, be careful with your finance officers. They could make or unmake you.

A mayor, a lady and a top provincial official discovered three weeks ago the manipulation and false report of a financial liaison of the latter about a sum the boss ordered to be paid to various offices and groups.

The provincial leader handed over P100,000 to the guy to be given to the mayor’s go-between, this lady who is a private citizen, for the transactions. But the actual amount handed over to the lady was only P80,000 and naturally, she immediately called up the mayor about it.

So when the mayor and the official met during the Lingayen Gulf Landings, he mentioned about the money and the copy of an acknowledgement receipt signed by the liaison officer for only P80,000.

To the mayor’s surprise, the offical said he gave P100,000, not P80,000!

They confronted the liaison guy, who rose from being a simple errand boy to being an occupant of a majestic residence. With no denial from him, he could only manage to smile sheepishly. Finally, he meekly signed a piece of paper handed to him by the mayor that asked for the return of P80,000.

How many more transactions had he benefited from? Magaling mag- gunting! Tsk tsk tsk, the boss should start counting.

….A LESSON ON HUMILITY. On another issue, here’s a text message Friday afternoon from Third District Rep. Rosemarie “Baby” Arenas, in reaction to a USATV news report aired Thursday night that she was “nanunumbat (casting aspersion/blaming)” to the local officials of Malasiqui led by Mayor Armand Domantay for not inviting her to any of their more than a week-long activities of their town fiesta celebration. Read on.

“ I heard that some people are wondering how come the congresswoman was not in the program during the 10-day town fiesta celebration of Malasiqui. To set the record straight, we were not invited by the main event sponsor but the DILG has requested us so I went to attend three consecutive nights of the Senior, Educators and Barangays, especially because these sectors are very close to my heart. I took the opportunity to explain to the audience that despite not being invited as a special guest or guest of honor, I came as a Malasiquinian. I was not invited even as a matter of courtesy to the office I hold but I humbled myself because I wanted to be with my kabaleyans on this special time. As Pope Francis said, be humble. I hope this clears things. (End of the message). –Tita Roces

MAYOR BELEN AS POSO HEAD – What’s this we heard that Mayor Belen Fernandez has temporarily assumed as acting head of the Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) with Michael Hernando as just her assistant. If this is true, it only means that the chief executive is not at all satisfied with the work of POSO from the start and wants that office to show better results.  This is certainly a welcome move although we know she is  already loaded neck-deep in her work as mayor of this great city.

As the only mayor in the country who named herself albeit temporarily as traffic csar, Fernandez may succeed in her objective of untangling the dizzying traffic in the central business district where POSO in more than one and a half year under her term had failed. She can rally all hands to help unclog the daily traffic bottleneck, which officials of lesser lights cannot do.

Now,  not only POSO and the police are minding the daily traffic flow but also some personnel of the City Assistance Service Team and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office. According to Superintendent Chris Abrahano, chief  of police, members of the newly formed  “parking police”,  tasked with the duty of clearing the streets of  illegally parked  vehicles, and the sidewalks of ambulant vendors,  were drawn from  the PNP, POSO,,CAST and CDRRMO. – Leonardo Micua
