IRRESPONSIBLE PRACTICE. A broadcaster in Pangasinan is being probed by the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) officers composed of station managers for his irresponsible practice as practicing broadcaster, particularly concocting facts.

The latest of which was his claim in his block time program that a ranking KBP official was berated by a supporter of another politico for soliciting a donation for the event without the courtesy of inviting the intended guest as main special guest for the KBP affair.

This was flatly denied by the KBP official. “It never happened and the interaction was cordial,” was his reported reaction to the broadcast made the following day by the blocktimer. The KBP members at the affair said the party proceeded smoothly, where the mood was happy having no less than Gov, Amado Espino Jr. as inducting officer. There were no insinuations at anytime about untoward reactions to friendly solicitations by members.

The broadcaster in question, I am told, usually resorts to name-calling if it suits his political patron’s image. He was often heard referring to his political patron’s rivals as “evil.”

Hurray to the KBP. I hope this will be the initial bold step towards real reforms for responsible broadcasting in this beloved province.- Tita Roces

A SAD DEVELOPMENT — It sad to know that two hardworking officials of the provincial government, Provincial Administrator Rafael Baraan and Provincial Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Officer Alvin Bigay will no longer visible in public functions at the provincial capitol.

They received the order from DILG through Atty. Joseph Apolonio, the legal officer of DILG Region 1, to vacate their posts in compliance with the resolution of the Office of the Ombudsman that ordered their dismissal from the service for their supposed roles in the alleged black sand mining at the eco-tourism zone in Lingayen. The issue involved the plan to build a world-class 18-hole golf course that would have been the envy of tourist destinations in Luzon.

I am sure they will do all to clear their names, and the process already started with the filing of a motion for reconsideration before the Ombudsman. Knowing the two, we know they can, and will bounce back.- Leonardo Micua
