GO, MANGO, GO! I agree with the decision of the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 1 to choose mango as the top commodity to be developed under the Philippine Rural Development Program. Our very own mangoes are comparable to that of the sweet variety of Guimaras. And Region 1 has always been one of the top, if not the top region in terms of quantity.

In years 2004-2008, Region 1 was the major mango producer in the country. I believe the latest focus given our mango will boost not only the production of raw mangoes but also the production of mango byproducts like mango juice, dried mangoes, among others. Who knows Region 1 will eventually be the country’s mango capital?

With our beloved Pangasinan as top mango-producer in the region, that translates to double happiness. – Johanne R. Macob

PRESERVING DASOL. Kudos to Mayor Noel Nacar of Dasol for standing his ground to protect the sea being the main source of livelihood of his constituents who are mostly into salt-making.

I hope his stand will not change and his successors will follow his “no to mining, no to fish cages” policy. I am sure Dasol’s future generations would be so proud and glad to see that Dasol bay remains one of the most beautiful and cleanest white sand beaches of Pangasinan. And the salt-making industry here will thrive even more.- Hilda M. Austria

TO SIR WITH LOVE. From the grapevine, I heard this juicy story about Mr. Public Official and his loud mouth office and personal assistant about an unforgettable overseas official trip.

The two had their Wonderful Tonights as they were always Missing In Action as soon as darkness set in. Fortunately their companions all understood and shrugged off their mysterious disappearances. After all, duo’s escapade has been rumored to be going on for several years already.

A mischievous politico who joined the group, shared his observation with his lovely wife and they both had their loudest laughs ever. “Trueness, super happiness si stafflalu,” exclaimed the mayor’s wife.

But while “Sir and staff” tried to be discreet about their romantic moments, “It’s A Small World After All”, like the all-time favorite attraction in Disneyland. An orig   Pangasinense based in the Land of Milk and Honey, on seeing the lovely pair somewhere out there claimed to be a witness. And, thanks to the Internet, the nosey Pangasinense immediately alerted a Dagupan reporter about what she saw.

OMG, as in oh my goodness, the girls who heard the story and gave each other high fives, saying in chorus: “Sana may Sir din tayo!” – Tita R. Roces

LONG OVERDUE—A bill in the senate seeking tax exemption of the 14th month pay for government employees up to P82,000 is actually long overdue. Personally, it is coming a year after we left the service which we served for 40 long years. Government employees deserve such benefit if only as a gesture to recognize their sacrifices.

Too, there is a need to review the pay scale of state workers because if I remember it right, the last trance of salary increase for them was in 2012 and there has been no increase in their pay since. Leonardo V. Micua
