ENTERPRISING SCHOOL OFFICIALS. Pity the teachers for they can’t say no to their big boss.
A school superintendent in one city in Pangasinan offers a decent proposal to neophyte teachers. How? By using his insurance coverage business to anyone who needs his OK to get the appointment for a teaching job. No insurance coverage, no appointment.
No wonder, this school superintendent suddenly has been enjoying a financial status upgrade a few months after he became superintendent.
The superintendent is also hardly seen in the Division Office but his ubiquitous presence is found in speaking engagements where the guy gets a speaker’s fee. This means that the superintendent remains present on that particular day and gets paid by the Department of Education and still receives honorarium (P5,000 and above per session) in forums attended mostly by teachers, some outside Pangasinan.
Para siyang duling, doble kita! Bravo! The guy must really be good!
Perhaps this is one reason why the superintendent does not check activities of the district supervisors in his division, who also busy with their own sidelines during their supposed DepEd time.

CATHOLIC SOCIAL MEDIA SUMMIT. My gratitude to the Youth Pinoy, the organizer of the summit for bringing the activity to the province.
I totally commend their advocacy to educate, encourage and inspire the young people to be bearer of the truth and good news with the right intent and mindset as they use the social media. Indeed, every good thing comes from above including technology which is beneficial in every way when used properly although it can also be harmful if used inappropriately.
Imagine what good it can do a province with young people geared positively towards social media for a good purpose. It is now up to those who attended the summit to make it a reality. Hilda M. Austria
YAFS 4 RESULTS. I am personally dismayed by the conclusions reached by the recent Young Adult Fertility and Sexuality (YAFS) study, that the percentage of the youth in the Philippines with vices such as smoking, alcohol-drinking and illegal drug-use has decreased while percentage of Pinoy youth that engaged in sexual activities has increased.
I was saddened because the survey was talking about 15-24-year-olds. Many of whom are supposed to be still studying, and pursing their castles in the sky yet many end up with shattered dreams.
Well, yes, sex is good, that it is one of God’s gifts to mankind. But, the main point is responsibility. More than the concept of getting married first before having sex, it’s about responsibility. One may only engage in sexual activities or other activities, if- and only if- one can be responsible for all the possible consequences.
Again, let us, particularly my fellow youth, all be responsible enough to differentiate the things that we should and should not do. We have been gifted with an ability to discern. – Johanne M. R. Macob
